Case Study - Peppermint Preschool

Celebrating 50 years of service to a community is a big deal! And that’s exactly why the Director of EvUCC’s Peppermint Preschool, Elaine Fenton, set out to find someone to design a beautiful 50-year logo.

This project was especially unique to me because I’m a graduate of Peppermint Preschool - Class of 1984!

The Process

Peppermint Preschool knew they wanted a logo and had asked the community to submit artwork towards the cause. A dear friend contacted me and asked if I’d be willing to submit a couple of designs. I was thrilled to be asked and immediately started working on a few options to send over to Elaine.

Creating the Logo

When creating the logo for Peppermint Preschool I knew it was important to design with playfulness in mind, but also keep the professionalism of such a long-standing community icon. Peppermint stripes are very playful and can be found in a lot of their materials, so I knew I wanted to incorporate stripes in the logo in some way. However, stripes can make text difficult to read at times and that was a challenge as I began to draft the logo options I had planned to submit.

I wanted to include stripes without overwhelming the audience. It also needed to focus on the celebration itself—50 years! I knew that they had big plans to display this logo on t-shirts, social media, newspaper articles and more. It had to be just right.

Knowing it was a submission process, I knew it was possible that one of my designs wouldn’t be chosen. But given my connection to Peppermint Preschool I was thrilled to send a few options their way and hope that they had incredible artwork to choose from.

The Winning Design

At the beginning of May I heard back from Elaine that they loved one of my designs and wanted to use it for their 50-year celebration. I am elated to see this logo proudly displayed as they wear their new t-shirts, celebrate on social media and announce their long-standing service to the community through newspaper articles.

Our preschool was celebrating it’s 50th anniversary in business and we were looking for a logo to represent
our accomplishment.

Laura, a former student at our preschool, created a wonderful design to represent our school and the monumental event.

We used the design for signage, advertising, and a t-shirt fundraiser. With the extra advertising this year, especially due to the eye-catching design, we increased our enrollment. We are so delighted with the design! Laura does a great job and is so wonderful to work with.
